$44M Cambridge Housing Complex Renovations Complete

CAMBRIDGE, MA – Renovations are complete at the Newtowne Court housing complex, construction firm CTA Construction Managers announced Wednesday. The 36-phase, $44 million project began in 2015 and includes updates to eight buildings and 268 affordable housing units.

The multi-phased approach was designed to allow as many homes to remain occupied while work was completed. The site will now return to full occupancy.

"We’re very proud to have completed this extensive reworking of an important Cambridge residential community," Paul DuRoss, principal at CTA Construction, said in a statement. "The renovations to this complex will improve the quality of life for hundreds of families and supplement the Cambridge Housing Authority’s mission of providing housing opportunities to families of all backgrounds."

The renovation plan included upgrades to the interior of the units, removal of asbestos materials, installation of engineered wood floors, new drywall and paint, replacement of all windows, new HVAC systems, electrical upgrades, plumbing improvements and installation of a fire protection system.

Bathrooms and kitchens were also upgraded to include new finishes and fixtures, appliances, countertops and cabinet doors. Landscaping and civil architecture changes were also made to the outside of the units.
