Acting Commissioner Christopher Burke Retires from Cambridge Police Department

He served for 32 years like his father and grandfather before him.

CAMBRIDGE, MA — Officer Christopher Burke has retired from the Cambridge Police Department after 32 years spent following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather before him.

The police department posted this tribute to Facebook Friday:

After serving the City of Cambridge for the past 32 years as a police officer and, most recently, Acting Commissioner, Christopher Burke has retired from the Cambridge Police Department. For those that did not know, Commissioner Burke's father and grandfather previously served in the department with his father retiring as a Captain in 1992 and his grandfather as a Patrolman in 1950. Following in their footsteps, it became a personal goal for Commissioner Burke's family to serve in the department for a full century. This year marked that important family milestone.
Please join us in thanking Commissioner Burke for his commitment, contributions, and invaluable service to the city he was born and raised in.
