Cambridge Brewing Company Closing After 35 Years
The brewery will have its final day in service in December.
CAMBRIDGE, MA — After 35 years in business, the beloved Cambridge Brewing Company will be closing its doors for good this December, the establishment said in an Instagram post over the weekend.
The brewery — which opened with a humble three-beer lineup but has expanded to offer a myriad of craft beers — will have its final day in service Dec. 20.
"We opened in 1989 with essentially 2 goals in mind," Cambridge Brewing Company wrote, in part, in the post. "First, to spread the word on what local craft beer was and could be ... We were the first commercial brewery to produce a Belgian-style beer in this country and one of the first to embrace multiple yeast strains in-house and even to intentionally invite wild organisms into our brewery. The second goal was to be a community meeting place. A place where our guests could get a break from their hectic lives, gather with old friends, make new ones, and let us take care of them."

The brewery added that its biggest honor has been the chance to "witness joyous family gatherings, awkward first dates, college reunions, running and social clubs, raucous bar crowds, and countless other occasions."
"It is this accomplishment we are most proud of," it wrote.

But over time, owners worked to check additional boxes. Cambridge Brewing Company added that it always aimed to provide "a positive and supportive workplace, encouraging skills growth, mutual respect, and friendship," develop "relationships with local food suppliers to promote their growth and a more sustainable, seasonally-driven food sensibility," and support the community in any way it could.
"A heartfelt thank you to all who have participated in our dream," the company said. "To our customers that have joined us time and again over the years, your support and friendship enabled our success. To all that are working or have worked here, you guys are what made this place so great. What an honor and a joy it has been to work alongside you!"
And it hopes to see its customers "often" in its final four months in business.
"We still have Patio Season, Festbier, Fall Menu and more coming," the company wrote.
"35 years, one hell of a run."
