The Newtowne Variety on Windsor Street has shut down, as the three brothers who own the place--Bert, Dave, and John Gauthier--have decided to retire. The corner store, was a neighborhood fixture known for its ties to the community including its annual lunch donations to the Community Art Center's youth film festival, according to the article.
Newtowne Variety had one of the only lunch counters in the neighborhood, first opened its doors 55 years ago.
