Cambridge Public Works to Host Gore Street Construction Meeting

The City of Cambridge is inviting residents to learn more about a major construction project on Gore Street starting this fall.

CAMBRIDGE, MA - The City of Cambridge is inviting residents to learn more about a major construction project on Gore Street between Monsign or O'Brien Highway and Warren Street beginning this fall.

According to a release from the Cambridge Dept. of Public Works, overall construction will include a new sewer main, a new Eversource gas main to replace the current main which is over 100-year old and a new 6" water main to replace the 8" water main originally installed in 1874.

Water work will include the removal of any lead services as well.

Additional work includes full-depth roadway paving, fully ADA compliant sidewalks and additional street trees.

The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28 at St. Francis Hall, 325 Cambridge St., Cambridge.

Food and drink will be served.

According to the Cambridge DPW, the City will be hosting a community design process in the spring of 2018 to work with residents to determine what, if any, changes should be made to Gore Street. The Cambridge DPW also listed an initial plan for construction when it starts next year.

  • The contractor for the sewer work, J. Derenzo, will begin construction this fall and work will continue through the 2018 construction season. The contractor will have 2 to 3 crews on Gore Street and weather permitting, construction will continue during the winter months.
  • Work hours will be 7AM to 4PM, Monday through Friday.
  • There will be noise and disruption from construction activities.
  • At least a week prior to the work commencing on each block, flyers will be distributed to impacted residents.
  • "No Parking"signs will be posted; please be sure to check dates/times.
  • Roadway and driveway access will be maintained, but may be restricted at times.
  • Pedestrian access and access into properties will be maintained at all times,but may be restricted in certain ways.
  • Emergency vehicles will have access at all times and all city services will continue.
