Cambridge Releases Top Dog Names, Other 'Dog Data'
According to the City's licensing data, in 2017 there were over 5,000 licensed dogs in the City of Cambridge.

CAMBRIDGE, MA - According to the City's licensing data, there were over 5,000 licensed dogs in the City of Cambridge just in 2017.
Updated this month, the City of Cambridge released a report on what kind of dogs live in the city as well as tracking data for their names. On the Cambridge Data site, you can browse an interactive chart detailing the dog names picked in Cambridge.
Residents' top dog names included Bella and Lucy. Some other unique names for Cambridge dogs include Pocky, Skittles, Glen Campbell, Kramer, Moonie Joe, Okonogi, Severus Snape, Muddy Waters, Whitey Bulger, Chorizo, Missy Elliot, Nas, Major Snake, Captain Marvel, and Flapjack.

According to the data, in 2017, there were over 2,400 different names for Cambridge's 5,000 or so dogs.

"That means each name was shared by an average of only two dogs. In fact, over 1,700 names were unique to one dog."
The top breeds, according to the report were Labrador retriever, followed by golden retriever and chihuahua. The data set also includes dogs names and breeds by neighborhood in Cambridge.

Cambridge is also offering tips on how to be a good dog owner in Cambridge:
License your dog
State law requires that all dogs over 6 months have a current dog license. The dog license period in Cambridge runs from April 1 of current year to March 31 of following year. You can apply for a dog license online.
