Cambridge Speed-Limits Drop to 25 MPH: ICYMI

Keep an eye on the road, Cambridge.

CAMBRIDGE, MA — Speed limits on city-owned streets dropped to 25 miles per hour on Dec. 8, unless otherwise posted.

It's a bid to improve safety, similar to the law recently passed by Boston, where the default speed-limit will also decrease to 25 mph effective Jan. 9, 2017. Arlington and Somerville passed local speed regulations of their own.

The Cambridge City Council approved the new lower speed limit reduction on November 7, after a statewide law passed earlier this year made it possible for local municipalities to regulate their own default speed limits.

The city will be posting the new speed limit at the City line at various locations, as permitted by State law.
