CineFest Latino Boston Announces its 2024 Festival September 25 – 29

CineFest Latino Boston returns Sept 25-29 with diverse films, Q&As, and a free community screening in Chelsea to kick off the festival.

CineFest Latino Boston today announced their second annual festival which will take place September 25 – September 29, 2024. After a successful first full festival lineup in 2023, CineFest Latino will return with provocative narrative, documentary, and short features as well as Q&A’s with filmmakers.

To kick off this year’s festival, for the very first time CineFest will present a free community screening prior to the official launch of the fest in Chelsea, MA. The complimentary Shorts Series will take place on Thursday, August 29th at the Apollinaire Theatre at 6:30 PM. The series will feature Open Your Heart: Immigrant Stories from Boston and Beyond, a short documentary directed by local filmmaker Jesse Epstein, the narrative short Canta Santiago, and 2022’s Raising the Floor, a moving narrative of how the community of Chelsea come together to feed neighbors and strangers during the Covid pandemic. A filmmakers Q&A will take place following the conclusion of the series.

“This year, we’re starting a tradition that I hope will grow for years to come. We’re kicking off the festival in a Latino community—in this case, Chelsea, MA—bringing the celebration directly to the heart of this community. Chelsea’s impact on the local economy of New England is immense, yet their contributions often go unrecognized. This is our opportunity to bring the festival to them, creating a space where they can see their stories reflected on the screen. By doing so, we hope to instill a sense of ownership and pride in the festival,” expressed Founder & Executive Director Sabrina Avilés.

2024 Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize for U.S. Drama In The Summers (Directed by Alessandra Lacorazza) will serve as the opening night film on Wednesday, September 25th at the Coolidge Corner Theatre and will be followed by a Q&A with Director Alessandra Lacorazza.

A diversity of countries are represented in this year’s festival including filmmakers from Mexico, Peru, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, El Salvador, Colombia, Uruguay and USA.

This year, the festival is honored to continue its partnership with incredible venues and presenters such at the Coolidge Corner Theatre, Museum of Fine Arts (MFA), and ArtsEmerson at the Emerson Paramount Theatre.
As in previous years, audiences will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite films during the festival. This year, we're excited to announce that FINAL DRAFT is sponsoring the festival by providing awards to the filmmakers who receive the most audience votes. Each winning filmmaker will be awarded the latest version of FINAL DRAFT, the industry-standard screenwriting software.

In addition to the festival, CineFest will serve as a co-presenter along Ágora Cultural Architects & AdocPR for special free screenings of the short film Preceded by: Art21: Daniel Lind-Ramos and the feature documentary Santiago de las Mujeres on September 19th at 6pm at the Boston City Hall Civic Pavilion. The film will be a part of this year’s Fiesta en la Plaza which celebrates Latinx Heritage Month.
