Fire In Cambridge Elementary School Has Some Sheltering On Buses
The school is now closed for the rest of the day while MBTA and school buses shelter students from the cold while waiting to be picked up.

CAMBRIDGE, MA — A small fire broke out in a Cambridge elementary school Tuesday morning.
The fire broke out at the Cambridgeport School around 8:15 a.m., and though firefighters were quick to extinguish the flames, there was still the question of where to evacuate the students while they ventilated the building.
Normally students would be sent outside, but the single-digit temperatures prompted MBTA and school buses to help shelter the children from the extreme cold.

A spokeswoman from the school said all classes have been canceled for the remainder of the day and parents should come back to pick up their children. Students who could not immediately be picked up from the buses will be temporarily relocated to the field house in the High School.
The public was asked to avoid the area of Elm Street between Hampshire and Broadway to expedite buses to the school.
