Harvard Dining Hall Workers Will Strike Wednesday

Breaking: The strike begins at 6 a.m., according to the union representing the workers.

Cambridge, MA — With no agreement over benefits and wages reached after months of negotiations with Harvard University, the union representing food services workers there is staging a strike, starting Wednesday morning.

"Instead of clocking in for their shifts, workers will be picketing at dozens of locations across Harvard’s undergraduate and graduate campuses. The strike will continue until a fair agreement is reached," UNITE HERE Local 26 said in a press release late Tuesday.

The picket line launches at 6 a.m., and the lines will converge in a mass protest at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Science Center Plaza, according to the union.

Harvard officials previously told Patch its dining workers "receive some of the most generous hourly wages and benefits for food service workers in the region," and that it has bargained in good faith throughout.

Negotiations have been ongoing since May, including multiple sessions overseen by a federal mediator. The union voted to authorize the strike on Sept. 15.
