Heating Assistance Available for Cambridge Residents

Cambridge and Somerville residents can be eligible for heating assistance through a federally funded program.

CAMBRIDGE, MA — The Cambridge Department of Human Service Programs is reminding residents of Cambridge and Somerville that help is available for those with trouble affording heat this winter.

The Fuel Assistance Program is available to low-income households with heating costs incurred between Nov. 1 to Apr. 30. The program is federally funded. Eligibility is determined based off of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Vendors are paid directly for program participants that are currently paying out of pocket for heating expenses.

In the event of an emergency: If you have no heat, a 72-hour shut-off notice, or less than 1/8 tank of oil, call the Fuel Assistance office, and you will be given an appointment for the same day.

If you have been eligible in the past, you must file a new application each year and submit proof of income and heating information.

According to the City website. the Fuel Assistance Program can also provide assistance with Discounts on utilities, and Weatherization services. You can call for an appointment at 617-349-6252.
