Jill Sobule Live at Club Passim: A Night of Wit & Music
Don't miss Jill Sobule at Club Passim on September 8th for an intimate evening of music, storytelling, and satirical insights.

Cambridge’s Club Passim is about to welcome a true musical trailblazer. On September 8th, singer-songwriter Jill Sobule will bring her eclectic blend of folk, rock, and satirical lyricism to this legendary venue. With a career spanning over three decades and a dozen albums, Sobule's work is a testament to her ability to tackle a wide range of topics—from LGBTQ rights to youth mental health—with her signature wit and charm.
If you're not already familiar with Jill Sobule, you might remember her from her 1995 breakthrough album, which produced the hits “Supermodel,” featured in the iconic teen movie Clueless, and “I Kissed A Girl” (no, not the Katy Perry version), the first openly queer-themed Billboard Top 20 record. These songs not only brought her critical and commercial success but also cemented her status as a pioneer in using pop music to address social issues.
Sobule's musical journey began in 1990 with her debut album Things Here Are Different, produced by the legendary Todd Rundgren. From the start, her work resonated with audiences and radio stations alike, with singles like “Too Cool To Fall In Love” capturing attention. Through her music, Sobule doesn’t just entertain—she challenges, explores, and reflects on the pressing issues of our time, whether it’s society’s unhealthy obsession with youth or our collective struggles with LGBTQ rights and mental health.

Her career has seen her share the stage with some of the biggest names in music, including Neil Young, Billy Bragg, Steve Earle, Cyndi Lauper, and Warren Zevon. She’s even inducted Neil Diamond into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. And if that isn’t enough, she’s regularly teamed up with comedian and SNL alumna Julia Sweeney for their acclaimed Jill & Julia Show, blending music and storytelling in a way that only these two can.
But Sobule isn’t just about reliving past glories. She continues to innovate and create, with her latest project—a musical titled Fuck 7th Grade—earning praise as a New York Times Critics’ Pick and a Drama Desk nomination. This autobiographical work debuted at the Wild Project in 2022, saw a successful remount in early 2023, and is set to return in November 2024.
