MA Has 1 Restaurant In Top 100, And It Doesn't Want Your Tips

Only one Massachusetts restaurant made OpenTable's list of the country's top 100. Check out why it doesn't accept gratuity.

Here's hoping Massachusetts restaurants ups their game in 2019. OpenTable revealed its 100 best restaurants of 2018, and only one Bay State eatery made the list.

The Table at Season to Taste, located on Mass Ave. in Cambridge, kept Massachusetts from getting shut out of the list. "An eclectic twenty seat restaurant featuring seating overlooking the open kitchen and an intimate environment," the OpenTable review reads.

And here's a tip, don't worry about bringing extra cash. The Table doesn't accept gratuity, instead weaving the cost of labor into the menu prices. The restaurant says it's to "more equitably support our team and cultivate a sustainable staffing model."

That price is $98 per person, tax and those labor fees included, for a three-course meal plus dessert. Alcohol is extra.

The restaurant is listed as contemporary French/American. The November menu is the most recent posted online and includes sashimi, rabbit, butternut squash, and more.

If you want a wider selection of OpenTable's top 100, drive down to Rhode Island. The state, which didn't feature even one restaurant in last year's list, had three this year.

Or keep going to New York, which landed a leading 24 restaurants on the list. California was second with 15, followed by Illinois (nine) and Texas (eight.)

The list is driven by reviews between Nov. 1, 2017 and Oct. 31, 2018. OpenTable considered more than 28,000 restaurants.

"The 100 Best Restaurants in America list gives voice to OpenTable's diner community by honoring the restaurants they love to visit and that consistently provide dining experiences that delight time and again," said Caroline Potter, Chief Dining Officer at OpenTable.
