Manhole Explosion, Power Outage Reported in Cambridge
Cambridge Fire crews were called to the scene of a manhole explosion in Inman Square in Cambridge.

CAMBRIDGE, MA - Cambridge residents are dealing with a large power outage in connection with a manhole explosion just outside of Inman Square.
According to the Cambridge Fire Dept. Twitter page, Cambridge Fire crews were called to the corner of Tremont and Cambridge Street around 9 p.m, responding to smoke and an explosion from a manhole.
A dispatcher at the Cambridge Fire Dept. confirmed that there were no injuries.

Just a half an hour later, the Cambridge Fire Dept. updated its status, this time reporting that several crews were on the scene.

In response, Eversource acknowledged the problem and initially estimated power would be restored to the area by 10:45 p.m.
At 10:26, the company revised their restoration schedule by an hour. But, according to an Eversource spokesman residents could be without power for several hours.

According to Eversource spokesperson Edgar Alejandro the cause of the explosion is still under investgiation.
"People are on site now and looking into it," he said.
Alejandro said there were approximately 1,200 customers out of power in the area.
"We're looking at a three to five hour repair time," Alejandro said.
