CAMBRIDGE, MA — Less than a month ago, the Middle East re-opened, a feat no one saw coming as rumors lead most of the public to believe the pandemic would force the club out of business. Now, the owners are saying they want proof of vaccination to enter the nightclub or restaurant.

This response comes as COVID-19 case numbers continue to spread through the delta variant.

The owners took to Facebook Monday saying, "With the Delta Variant currently ripping through the country, The Middle East has made the tough decision to require proof of Covid-19 vaccination as part of entry requirements to our shows and to eat at our restaurants for the time being."

The owners say they will be following the numbers closely, and hope that it will not be a long-term policy, but add that they felt it was the right thing to do, in a Facebook post.

They say the card or a picture of the card will prove to be enough to be let inside and say they are doing this as an abundance of caution to protect the community.

On Tuesday, case numbers linked to a cluster in Provincetown alone jumped to 765, of those, 469 are Massachusetts residents and 199 live in Provincetown, just a car ride away from the city.

The owners added that if anyone is upset with the policy they can get a full refund for any tickets purchased through August. "We have all suffered enough and we hope you choose to get vaccinated if you have not already."
