New Whole Heart Provisions Opens In Central Square

Ged ready. The popular Allston vegan grain bowl spot opens on Wednesday.

CAMBRIDGE, MA — Whole Heart Provisions, that lovable vegan bowl mecca of healthy deliciousness* you know from Allston, opens it second location in Central Square on Wednesday the restaurant announced on social media Tuesday.

Chefs and founders Rebecca Arnold and James DiSabatino (of Roxy Grilled Cheese) opened in the space formerly occupied by Root 2015 to create healthy, quick vegan grain bowls and quickly won recognition by the Boston Globe that year for being the best healthy lunch spot. The following year they made the list over at Best of Boston for vegetarian restaurant in 2016. Chronicle has even featured them.

"Our goal is simple: to create quick, delicious food, and make veggies the star of the show. We're passionate about pleasing our planet, our community, our bodies, and most importantly, our tastebuds. We work hard marinating, searing, roasting, blanching, and pickling everyday, so that we can create food worth craving and telling friends about. We're inspired by taking the freshest produce possible, and introducing it to bold flavors from all over the world. We stand for pushing boundaries, in our work, in our ingredients and our flavors. We're about creating something different, something new, and putting our whole heart into making that happen," reads a note from the two on Whole Heart's website.

The new location, once again located next door to a Roxy’s Grilled Cheese, is larger than the Allston original with seating for 37 and plans for more outside shortly, according to Boston Magazine.

The new place (at 298 Mass Ave) has wall of floor-to-ceiling windows and a food-lover's mural and Whole Heart's signature copper and maple tables.

It looks like the Cambridge spot will have all the old favorites that Allston has - from seared avocado and street corn to mix-and-match grain or kale bowls teeming with things like eggplant and chickpeas and smashed cucumbers and korean black beans with creamy harissa dressing and crunchy lentils. The Cambridge spot will also offer a medley of flavors of juice concoctions and Kombucha on tap.
