📰 News we're reading

1. City of Cambridge Issues CodeRED Cyberattack Update (thecyberexpress.com) — Cambridge’s emergency alert system vendor suffered a nationwide cyberattack, and residents must immediately reset their CodeRED passwords to keep getting reverse-911 notifications about snow emergencies, outages, and other disruptions. The city says only contact details and passwords in the vendor’s system were exposed, not municipal networks, and it’s now using a new, more secure CodeRED by Crisis24 platform while evaluating long-term alert options.

2. Christmas with the Boston Camerata: Reflections from the Creators. (classical-scene.com) — Boston Camerata is bringing its long-running Christmas tradition to First Church in Cambridge on December 21, offering a deeply researched program called “The Midnight Cry: An American Christmas.” Directors Joel Cohen and Anne Azéma share how decades of innovative holiday concerts at Sanders Theatre, the MFA, and beyond shaped this year’s locally staged performance.

3. The Cambridge Day guide to Michelin's local notables (cambridgeday.com) — Cambridge diners now have eight local spots recognized in Michelin’s new Boston-area guide, from Giulia and Moëca in Neighborhood 9 to Oleana in Inman and Sumiao in Kendall Square. The piece walks you through what to order, reservation tips, and even Urban Hearth’s planned move to a larger Inman Square space, spotlighting how Cambridge’s independent restaurant scene is finally getting global attention.

4. Data center proliferation driving up power needs (lowellsun.com) — Massachusetts officials are weighing how a nationwide boom in AI-driven data centers will affect the state’s power grid and climate goals, and Cambridge is already home to at least one such facility. While most new mega-centers are landing elsewhere, state leaders and grid operators are debating whether future projects here would bring needed jobs or unwanted environmental and neighborhood impacts.
