Suspect Slashes Central Square Clerk While Stealing Food, Police Allege

Police say the convenience store clerk was trying to stop a shoplifter from stealing food when he was slashed in the arm with a knife.

CAMBRIDGE, MA — A homeless suspect allegedly slashed a Central Square store clerk with a utility knife in the early hours of Wednesday morning, according to Cambridge Police.

According to CPD, officers arrested 55-year-old Tyrick Cannon for Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon.

Police say the convenience store clerk was trying to stop a shoplifter from stealing food when he was slashed in the arm with a utility knife, around 3 a.m.

Officers found Cannon nearby, in the area of Massachusetts Avenue and Windsor Street, and seized the utility knife, which was found in Cannon’s front pocket, CPD said. The store clerk was treated on-scene for what CPD describes as non-life threatening injuries.

Cannon is expected to be arraigned Wednesday in Cambridge District Court.
