Uber, MADD Offering Free Rides In Cambridge Ahead Of Thanksgiving

More than 800 people died in drunken crashes over the Thanksgiving weekend between 2012 and 2016, according to MADD.

CAMBRIDGE, MA —Between 2012 and 201 more than 800 people were killed during the holiday weekend on the roads. In response, Mothers Against Drunk Driving declared Thanksgiving "the deadliest holiday on our roads."

Now the group is parnering with Uber to offer free rides Wednesday night in Boston 58 Massachusetts communities, including Cambridge.

"We want to make it easy for riders to make Uber their designated driver, get home safely, and keep everyone else on the roads safe as well," Persis Elavia, Uber's general manager for New England, said in a statement.

Under the promotion, residents in the designated towns can enter the code "SAFERIDEMA18" "Add Promo/Gift Code" tab on the Uber app to unlock a free ride up to $15. The promotion runs from 9 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday, and the number of rides available is limited.

Meanwhile, Delta Airlines and Lyft have partnered up, and now passengers can link their SkyMiles and Lyft accounts and earn miles on every Lyft ride. JetBlue TrueBlue members can also earn points on all Lyft rides to the airport.

Making your flight, bus, or train shouldn’t be the most stressful part of your Holiday, new Lyft users can use the code 2018HOLIDAYS for $5 off the first two rides.

According to Boston Lyft rides in 2017, the top travel day in November was Nov. 10, followed by Nov. 11. Thanksgiving weekend didn't make the top round, according to Lyft.
