Civil volunteers in several capacities in Stoughton and Canton. She currently serves as a commissioner for the Eastern Regional Commission on the Status of Women; a member of the Parent Council Committee at Joseph R. Dawe, Jr. Elementary School; a Communications Subcommittee of the Trial Court’s Committee to End Eacism in the Courts; a volunteer for the Stoughton's Energy & Sustainability Committee; and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
Most notably, Civil serves as a board member of the Boston Chapter of Massachusetts Association for the Education of Young Children and Canton Residents for Sustainable Equitable Future (CR4SEF). She was a Stoughton Girl Scout rtoop leader and a Fellow for the organization Policy for Progress. Civil described how she has seen firsthand how the people of the 6th Norfolk District face the terrible effects of a sliding scale of equitable education, climate change, lack of healthcare for all, and the need for equitable opportunities for our most vulnerable segments of society. She said that it is time for progressive change, and knows that many members of the 6th Norfolk District know in their hearts and minds that all people need to come together to better the community. With this passionate stance on progress, Civil said she cannot stand idly by and has chosen to take action by running once again for State Representative.
In her statement, Civil said she wants to be the voice for the community and in doing so advocate for policies that will positively impact all citizens in the district, addressing issues such as climate justice, healthcare, affordable housing, transportation and affordable childcare.
As a Democrat, she said she will fight for early childhood program standards for three- and four- year-olds and high-quality early education and ensure that care is available to all working families.
With COVID-19 and specifically the omicron variant on the rise, Civil said she supports creating a single-payer health insurance system in Massachusetts that promotes access and low care cost.
To combat climate change, she supports energy efficiency and clean energy development, keeping more energy dollars local and helping communities shift to a sustainable green economy with low carbon emission. Civil believes a calculated and efficient economic transition that centers equity and creates unionized, good-paying, clean energy jobs is the best solution to the environmental disaster that plagues our present and future.
Functional transportation has been among the biggest issues in the district and Civil pledges to invest in modern public transportation projects, vote against fare increases, and infrastructure spending to modernize and strengthen the roads and bridges that have been sorely forgotten.
Civil stressed that now more than ever is the time to take a stand for the 6th Norfolk District and hopes to bring about the change that the district needs to empower the economy, serve our communities, and help the less fortunate have healthy and productive lives.
