5 Things: Irish History Presentation, Film Screening
Deadlines, events and other items you should know about on March 14 in Charlestown.

1. Partly sunny: Today will be partly sunny with a high near 41 degrees and a low around 24, according to the National Weather Service.
2. St. Patrick’s event: The Charlestown Women’s Club will host a St. Patrick’s Day celebration tonight from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus. Tom Coots and Ed Callahan of the Charlestown Historical Society will give a presentation on local efforts to help save the Carrickabraghy Castle in County Donegal's Inishowen Peninsula. There will be complimentary Irish bread, sweets and hot beverages along with a cash bar. This event is free and open to all.
3. Documentary screening: The Friends of the Charlestown Branch Library and Boston Organics will present a free screening of the documentary film “Forks Over Knives” followed by a discussion tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Charlestown library. The film examines the claim that most of the degenerative diseases that afflict human beings can be controlled or even reversed by rejecting animal-based and processed foods.

4. Free books: The Charlestown Branch Library will host Irish storyteller Big Joe today at 4 p.m. and afterward will distribute two free books each to children through the Reading is Fundamental program. No registration is required.
5. Artists’ reception: In celebration of Women’s History Month, the Bunker Hill Community College Art Gallery in Charlestown is hosting a new exhibit, “The Other ‘F’ Word: The Future of Feminism Today,” featuring the work of 29 female artists, from March 7 to April 5. An artists’ reception will be held today from 6-8 p.m. and will include live music by Yani Batteau and a mini info fair attended by various women’s organizations in Boston.
