5 Things: Scholarship Deadline, Preschool Openings
Deadlines, events and other items you should know about on April 8 in Charlestown.

1. Mostly sunny: Today will be mostly sunny with a high around 59 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Showers are possible in the evening. Low around 47 degrees.
2. Scholarship available: Today is the deadline to apply for the $5,000 Michael P. Quinn Scholarship, which is awarded every June. Applicants must have been a resident of Charlestown for the past four years and a graduate with the Class of 2013. Recipients may use the scholarship during the first year of college only. 3. Upcoming youth breakfast: Charlestown Against Drugs will host a pancake breakfast for all Charlestown youth athletes on Sunday, April 14 at the Schrafft Center dining hall (529 Main St.). The free event will begin at 10 a.m. and will feature former Boston Bruin Brian Leetch as the guest speaker.

4. Preschool openings: The Kennedy Center (10 City Square) currently has openings for preschoolers ages 3-5. For information, call Martha Auerbach at 617-241-8866 x1338 or email mauerbach@kennedycenter.org.
5. Volunteers wanted: The annual Boston Shines community cleanup is scheduled on Saturday, April 27. Every year, about 5,000 volunteers come together to help plant flowers, sweep, rake and pick up trash around the city. Register now as a volunteer or register your business or organization to help with the event.
