5 Things: Yard Sale Signups, Prom Donations
Deadlines, events and other items you should know about on April 9 in Charlestown.

1. Partly sunny: Showers and thunderstorms are possible before 11 a.m. today, with a slight chance of rain between 11 a.m. and noon. The rest of the day will be partly cloudy and breezy, according to the National Weather Service. More showers are likely late in the evening. High: 71, Low: 46.
2. Yard sale signup: Charlestown nonprofit Trinity Recovery for Women is holding a townwide yard sale on Saturday, May 11. For a $15 tax-deductible donation, your yard or sidewalk sale will be listed on a map that will be distributed around town. You keep all proceeds from your own yard sale. Deadline to sign up is May 4.
3. Homework help: The Charlestown Branch of the Boston Public Library offers a free drop-in homework help program for students in grades K-8. High school-age mentors from Boston's public and private schools provide the academic support. The program runs daily most weeks, Monday through Thursday, from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Visit the library website for more information.

4. Prom drive: At-Large Boston City Councilor Ayanna Pressley is holding a prom dress and tuxedo collection drive this morning from 8-9 a.m. at the Eastern Bank adjacent to Ashmont Station (1906 Dorchester Ave.). Donations can also be dropped off at Pressley’s fifth-floor City Hall office and locations in Jamaica Plain and Dedham. The clothing will be given to Boston area teens this prom season.
5. Voter registration: The last day to register to vote or change one’s voting address or party affiliation for the April 30 primary is April 10. Voters who have used absentee ballots in the past are reminded that a new application must be filled out each calendar year. Applications can be downloaded from the Election Department’s website, www.cityofboston.gov/elections.
