5 Things You Need to Know Today, Jan. 19
A coyote on Beacon Hill and -- finally -- your chance to manage the MBTA.

Today is Wednesday, Jan. 19. Here are five things you need to know today.
1. The Hill is alive. Or it was, briefly, anyway. There was a coyote in Louisburg Square over the weekend. The poor thing – an injured 2 or 3 year-old female – hobbled over from the Common, looking for something to eat, experts speculated. She was euthanized, officials said, for public safety reasons. You can read more about it on our sister site, Beacon Hill Patch.
2. The T would run on schedule if you were in charge, right? You can find out. The MBTA is inviting you, a T rider, to spend a day behind the scenes with General Manager Richard Davey. But officials are anticipating that a lot of Bostonians will want this, er, privilege. So they’re making this a contest. Tell them in 150 words or less why you should have this honor. The deadline is Jan. 31. If you win, you’ll be GM for a day on Feb. 4. Send entries to: GM4ADAY@mbta.com.
3. You’ve got plans on Saturday: The is hosting a fundraiser at the . They’re trying to raise money to send their swim team to the Boys and Girls Club National Championship in Florida. They’ll take donations of any amount. If you want more details, get it touch with Marci at mferry@bgcb.org or 617-516-5506.

5. What’s falling from the sky today More rain! The forecast: A chance of rain and snow showers in the morning, then rain showers likely with a chance of snow showers in the afternoon. Patchy fog. Little or no snow accumulation. Highs in the upper 30s. Northwest winds 5 to 10 mph. Gusts up to 20 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation 70 percent. And tonight? Mostly cloudy.
