Bomb Squad Responds to Complaint in Navy Yard Monday Morning

Officials say reports of a suspicious device turned out to be unfounded.

It was a busy scene at the commuter boat in the Navy Yard on Monday morning, when the bomb squad from the Boston Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious device on the pier.

Around 7:55 a.m., officers arrived on the scene to investigate a report of three suspicious boxes. A Boston Police spokesman told Patch the report was unfounded -- "it turned out to be nothing," he said.

The scene was cleared before 10 a.m., officials said. The commuter boat service was not interrupted.

The sight of police in the Navy Yard this morning was unnerving to some residents -- particularly following the news that Osama Bin Laden was killed by U.S. forces in Pakistan.

Kendall Covitz, who lives in the Navy Yard, passed the scene around 8:30 a.m. She said there were at least 10 officers on the scene, including a bomb sniffing dog. The barricades going in the Navy Yard were raised and the area was roped off.
