Charlestown Man, 83, Arrested After Slamming into Police Cruiser
An 83-year-old motorist allegedly smashed into a police cruiser on I-95 in Newbury before trying to flee the scene.

A Charlestown resident is facing multiple charges after allegedly smashing his car into the back of Massachusetts State Police cruiser on I-95 before resisting arrest early Thursday morning, police officials report.
The driver, an 83-year-old man from Boston’s Charlestown neighborhood, was operating his vehicle in an erratic fashion along I-95 in Newbury, police in the area observed.
An state trooper pulled the driver over around 2 a.m. As the trooper was engaged in conversation, the man suddenly accelerated forward, crashing right into the back of the vacant cruiser.

As a result of the impact, the cruiser was pushed into the righthand travel lane. An oncoming tractor-trailer then drove right into the cruiser, police officials said. No injuries were reported.
The suspect allegedly kept driving his vehicle forward for 500 yards before veering off the road. Police identified the man as a native of Charlestown. He was transported to the hospital for the treatment of minor injuries.

He will be charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, malicious destruction of property, and resisting arrest, according to police.
