2013 Boston Marathon Profiles: Charlestown's Sharon Stark Running for Third Year in a Row

Charlestown Patch shares the stats, stories and training tips of local runners.

The 117th Boston Marathon is coming up on Monday, April 15. As the city prepares to welcome about 20,000 runners and even more spectators, Charlestown Patch will be sharing the stories of some local marathon participants.

  • Name: Sharon Stark
  • Age: 40
  • Reason for running: There are many reasons that I am running Boston—finding cures for cancer (I am running the marathon with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society), the cheering of the crowds, seeing my family and friends along the course, the emotion that comes with turning left on Boylston and spotting the finish line, crossing that finish line, and, of course, the celebration after. There is no greater feeling of accomplishment than setting out to do what had previously felt impossible.
  • Marathon experience: This is my sixth marathon and my third consecutive Boston Marathon.
  • Training tip: One mile at a time.
