Daily 5: Harry Potter Party, Movie Night at Looney Park

Deadlines, events and other items you should know about on July 30 in Charlestown.

1. Sunny: Tuesday, July 30 will be sunny and clear with a high near 85 and a low around 63, according to the National Weather Service.

2. CHAD Movie Night: After the first movie night on Thursday was rained out, Charlestown Against Drugs will try again to host a free movie night in Charlestown, this time on Tuesday, July 30 at Peter Looney Park (Union St. and Old Rutherford Ave.). The movie “Where The Wild Things Are” will be shown at dusk.

3. J.K. Rowling Birthday Party: Drop by the Charlestown Branch Library (179 Main St.) on Tuesday, July 30 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. for a special Harry Potter themed party in honor of creator J.K. Rowling, who was born on July 31. The children’s room will be transformed into Diagon Alley, where kids can make their own wands at Ollivander’s, learn about owls at Eeylops Emporium and guess how much money Harry has at Gringotts. All ages are welcome.

4. Free YMCA memberships: The Charlestown YMCA (150 Third Ave.) and Huntington Avenue YMCA are offering free summer memberships for teenagers up to age 19 from June 29 through Sept. 7. As members, teens can participate in sports and fitness programs, teen dances and events, volunteer and leadership opportunities and academic support programs. Drop by to sign up; bring a valid ID. 5. Sell and buy on Patch: Whether you’re looking to buy, sell or trade, you can take advantage of Charlestown Patch’s new local Board to get it done.
