Free Puppet Show Today at the Library
Plus, a guest host on Charlestown Live this week.

Today is Thursday, Feb. 24. Here are five things you need to know today.
1. What are you doing at 4 p.m. today with your kids? You’re going to the at the library, that’s what. The performance promises a magical story line and lots of creative characters. It’s free and open to the public, today at the Charlestown branch.
2. If you’re tuning into Charlestown Live tonight on Channel 9, you’ll see a familiar face — but it won’t belong to Peter Looney. This week Kathy Giordano, Charlestown native and president of the Women’s Club, will be hosting the show while Peter is recuperating. She’ll have Tom Cunha, president of the Neighborhood Council, as a guest. Charlestown Live airs at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday and again at 8 p.m. on Saturday and 10:30 a.m. on Monday.

3. There was a snarky little story in the Metro yesterday about the holiday wreaths that are still hanging around the neighborhood. Now that the snow is melted, it’s easier to notice them. Yes, they’re looking rough and yes, members of the business community are aware of this problem. Volunteers from the Business Association/Chamber of Commerce are driving around today, in fact, to take them down. () Note: if you read the Metro piece, you’ll notice that the reporter didn’t ask to a single person who actually lives in Charlestown how they felt about the wreaths. Just saying.
4. If you happened to be in the vicinity of the Statehouse on Tuesday, maybe you noticed a pretty sizeable crowd protesting. They were union workers standing in solidarity with the folks in Wisconsin who are at a standoff with their governor and the GOP legislators who want to end collective bargaining. There’s a photo gallery of the protest on Beacon Hill Patch if you want to take a look.

5. And it’ll be a bit warmer today: A high near 38, to be exact. Overnight, rain and snow likely. But fortunately, no real accumulation.
