Historical Society Hosting Club House Hours Again

Plus, F.I.T.'s Life is Good event.

Today is Friday, Feb. 25. Here are five things you need to know today.

1. I had a lovely chat with George Morton, the new president of the Charlestown Historical Society recently. He was catching me up on the new programs and plans that are in the works for the organization. He also told me that volunteers for the society are hosting a sort of open house every Saturday from now on on the third floor of the at 43 Monument Square. From 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., you can stop by to learn about the society, get involved with upcoming projects and check out the Charlestown documentary “The Green Square Mile.” For more details, give George a call: 857-205-0813.

2. Just a reminder of a special event that Emily McCavanagh of F.I.T. is leading this weekend: She’ll be at Life is Good store on Newbury Street from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., helping folks partner with fitness and nutrition that works for them – and gets you out of this February funk. Entry to the event is $75 — you get a personalized work out, cooking instructions and shopping discounts. Food and drink will be served. Plus, 20 percent of proceeds from the event go toward the nonprofit arm of Life is Good. More details at getfitinspiredtraining.com.

3. Yesterday I reported that Kathy Giordano is filling in for Peter Looney as the host of Charlestown Live this week. That’s still true. But I also reported that Tom Cunha was going to be her guest – that’s no longer the case because poor Tom is home sick with the flu. (Feel better, Tom.) Diane Grant stepped in, in his place, to talk about what's happening around town. The show aired live last night, but it will re-run Saturday at 8 p.m. and on Monday at 10:30 a.m. on Channel 9.

4. This is a piece of news I am really excited to report: I’m going on vacation today! I’ll be gone for a week, but the work at Charlestown Patch will continue. I’m handing over the site to a very capable Patch contributor and editor, Christopher Treacy. Have fun with him while I’m on the beach. His little photo will appear on the top of the homepage for the next several days. Feel free to get in touch with him about any questions, concerns or story ideas. And I’ll see you again in March.

5. Seems like it’s going to be a rainy day. And a warm one. High near 47. The rain will continue into the evening and possibly turn into a bit of snow overnight. (Forecast where I’m going in Florida: Sunny and 79. Please, universe, do not let the rain delay my flight.)
