Community Corner
Kennedy Center Board to Discuss Budget Cuts
The public is welcome to attend Monday's meeting, and show support for the agency.

Today is Friday, March 18. Here are five things you need to know today.
1. This is a big deal: A few weeks back, we reported that . The great work the agency does in the neighborhood is still at risk, and on Monday the center’s Board of Directors will meet to discuss this challenge in more specifics. The board will also be talking about options for dealing with budget cuts. The public is welcome to attend. Meeting starts at 6 p.m. at 23A Moulton St. For more info, call 617-241-8866. In my experience, it’s important for residents to turn out for these things – even if they don’t contribute – to demonstrate that the community cares, if nothing else. Patch will be there.
2. Want to give CrossFit training a try? There’s a free basics class for residents on Monday from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. If you’re interested, you should email info@avalonpersonaltraining.com to register, as space is
limited to only eight people. You can go to www.avaloncrossfit.com for more info and directions. Or, better yet, read about (Patch columnist) . Hard core.

3. This message came to me from the Charlestown Townies Facebook group: The Townies are, in case you were wondering, still a member of the EFL and plan to compete this year for the EFL Championship. There’s a team workout on Saturday, which will be followed by a team meeting for anyone who wants to play this season. Get in touch for the details: CTTownies@gmail.com.
4. Since it’s still St. Patrick’s week, there may be a few of you out there still making, eating or otherwise thinking about soda bread. Did you know there was such a thing as the Society for the Preservation of Irish Soda Bread? Yes. And a member from that society was on Here and Now this week, a Boston-based public radio show, hosting an Irish soda bread bake-off. Apparently there’s some debate about what constitutes the real thing. For a few recipes and to see who won the contest, click here.
