Looking to Meet Some Neighbors in Their 20s and 30s?
A couple of residents have launched a new Charlestown social group on Meetup.com.

Today is Monday, April 11. Here are five things you need to know today.
1. Are you new to the neighborhood, in your 20s and 30s, and looking to meet some friends in the same boat? Good news: there’s a Charlestown group on Meetup.com, just for you. Meetup.com, in case you’re not familiar with it, is a free web site that allows people to organize and connect to other folks with common interests, usually in the same neighborhood. You can find all kinds of interests represented there. If you’re curious about the “Charlestown 20s and 30s Social Group” – started, by the way, by two young women in Charlestown – check out this site. There are some events coming up. Or you can suggest your own.
2. The Charlestown Neighborhood Council has been looking for a couple more non-profits that want representation on the council. They’re hoping to seat nonprofits for two-year terms. All members of the council must reside in Charlestown and any organization that would like to apply can simply send a letter of interest to the Neighborhood Council, P.O. Box 397. Letters must be received by April 15. Nonprofits will be selected at the council’s May 3 meeting. Susan Frigoletto of the Charlestown Mothers Association was at the council’s April meeting, checking out what kind of work the council does. Maybe the CMA will have a seat on the council starting this spring?

3. Bridges in the Commonwealth are in rough shape. And that may be putting it lightly in many cases. A new campaign, called Transportation for America, has published an interactive map of the countries bridges – and, with a color-coded system you can see which among them are structurally deficient. You can have a look for yourself, but plenty of them within a 10-mile radius of Charlestown are indeed in need of attention.
4. Save this date: On April 17 from 3 to 7 p.m., the Charlestown Community Center will be hosting a fundraiser at the Warren Tavern. We’ll have more details later this week, but I just wanted to put this on your radar in advance. The Community Center is an incredible resource for the neighborhood, and I’ve been told by many folks that the center’s director, Beth Burton (a Charlestown native herself), is largely responsible for that. See you on the 17th?

5. Today’s forecast, a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11 a.m., and reportedly there could be some heavy rain and frequent lightning. Otherwise, partly sunny with a high near 68. Bring it!
