Massive Fire In Everett Warehouse Sparks Hazmat Investigation

Crews are now working to remove the abandoned warehouse set for demolition that was destroyed in the fire.

EVERETT, MA — A warehouse set for demolition in Everett caught fire late Sunday night causing firefighters to battle the flames for over eleven hours.

The fire was initially reported around 11 p.m. Sunday, with firefighters responding to an abandoned warehouse at 69 Norman Street, where they say the building was already engulfed in large flames.

Firefighters battled the flames until early Monday morning when the Everett Fire Department said the building had completely collapsed.

The fire left nearby buildings damaged and National Grid was called in due to a power system explosion next to the building, Everett Deputy Fire Chief Lawrence Cardinale said.

The Massachusetts Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Division was also reported on the scene this morning by fire officials. The state's HazMat team was called over concerns about potential chemicals in the building, Cardinale said.

No one was injured in the fire and an investigation as to the cause of the fire remains underway, officials say.
