Police: Intoxicated Man Drove Truck Off of Boston Interstate

He reportedly landed on the lower deck of the expressway after crashing his truck off of I-93 northbound.

A motorist is facing drunk driving charges after he crashed his truck off of Boston’s Interstate 93 northbound and landed on the lower deck of the expressway Sunday morning. The motorist was the only person in the car.

Troopers responded around 6:25 a.m. for the report of a vehicle crashing through the exit to Route 1 north and several sections of a chain link fence, according to Massachusetts State Police.

The truck came to a rest on the lower deck, the southbound side of Interstate 93, after leaving the upper deck, per NECN.

The motorist, 33-year-old Vannak Sao of East Boston, was rescued from the vehicle and transported to Massachusetts General Hospital.

Sao was summoned to court on charges of operating under the influence and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. His license was revoked.

“I know the truck is totaled, but I’m glad he’s still alive,” Vanny Sao, the driver’s father, said to CBS Boston. “He said he probably fall asleep or something and hit the snowbank or slip and slide. I’m not sure yet.”
