Week in Review: Helping a Family, Robbery Arrest and School Board Appointment

Life gets busy, and Patch certainly understands that. So with that in mind, here are a few stories you might have missed on Charlestown Patch this week:

1. Fund Established To Help Charlestown Family Pay Son's Funeral Expenses—A Charlestown family coping with the sudden death of their son and brother is in need of some community support to pay for funeral costs.

2. Charlestown Man Charged in Mall Robbery—A Charlestown man was arraigned this week in Quincy District Court on charges of unarmed robbery of a person age 60 or older, assault and battery on a disabled person age 60 or older and larceny over $250.

3. Charlestown Resident Reappointed to School Board—Charlestown resident Michael O'Neill was sworn in to his second term on the Boston School Committee on Friday.

4. Mayor Menino Back and Running Boston City Hall—Boston Mayor Thomas Menino is back in City Hall and running the city as he was before being hospitalized for two months.

5. Christmas Tree Pickup Schedule in Charlestown—The Boston Public Works Department announced this week that workers will collect Christmas trees for composting in Charlestown from Jan. 7-18.

6. First Baby Born in 2013 at Mass General—The first Boston baby of 2013 was born almost 10 minutes into the new year. Mother Sophanie Sejour of Haiti gave birth to a healthy baby girl at 12:09 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2013, at Massachusetts General Hospital.

7. @ This Address: Mead Street Home Once Part of Garden Estate—The land on which the house at 38 Mead St. presently stands was once part of Isaac Mead’s estate. That great swath of land originally encompassed Main, Eden, Mead, Russell and Oak streets and stretched to Bunker Hill Street.

8. Police Reports: TV Vandalized in House Break—A Tibbetts Town Way resident reported on Sunday, Dec. 23 that a television on the first floor of her residence had been vandalized.
