Whistler in the Dark Returns to Charlestown
The Boston-based theater company is performing two plays that open this weekend.

Ensemble theater company Whistler in the Dark will return to the Charlestown Working Theater with two plays opening this weekend.
Now in its eighth season, this Boston-based ensemble was recently named an "Unsung Hero" in the Boston arts community by the Improper Bostonian.
Whistler in the Dark has produced 21 full-length plays under the rubric of “unknowing the known.” The group’s aim is to present “highly theatrical and physically inventive plays that question and challenge our assumptions about the world in which we live and the rules we live by.”

The company's two current productions, opening at the Charlestown Working Theater this weekend, are George Farquhar’s Restoration comedy, "The Recruiting Officer," alongside "Our Country’s Good," a play set in the penal colony of 18th century Australia, in which the hero attempts to mount a production of "The Recruiting Officer," despite the fact that he only has two scripts, a largely illiterate cast of convicts and a leading lady who’s headed for the gallows.
The plays—featuring Zachary Eisenstat, Lynn Guerra, Jayson Rory James, Chris Larson, Lorna Nogueira, Jen O'Connor, Alejandro Simoes, Meredith Stypinski, Jesse Wood and Mac Young—will run on Friday and Saturday nights, March 15 through April 6.
