With Local Support, Book Nook Launches on Bunker Hill Street
Plus, wondering what's brewing with the city's bike lanes? Two meetings this week will take up the issue.

Today is Monday, April 4. Here are five things you need to know today.
1. in the Bunker Hill Housing Development had a successful opening last week, thanks in part to donations made by people in the neighborhood. I got an email form Kelly Pellagrini at the Charlestown Nursery School, full of gratitude to everyone who donated books and supplies. The Book Nook is a lending library available to all families in Charlestown. It will be open Monday through Friday from 9 to 5. Organizers will still welcome donations. Get in touch with Kate McDonough at kmcdonough@kennedycenter.org or 617-241-8866 for details. And here’s a quote from Kelly: “What a wonderful and generous community!”
2. You may have heard something about city officials getting excited to bring more . It seems like they’re serious. Last week they launched a survey for residents, asking them where they’d like to see more mobile food services. Maybe on the Common? Downtown? Castle Island? City Square? It’s up to you. Take a minute to look at the city’s info page on food trucks and then fill out the online survey.

3. Bike lanes are back! No – not really. But the bike lane discussion is back, though arguably it never went away. There are a couple of important meetings in the coming days that could determine the future of bike lanes, not just in Charlestown, but also in the city as a whole. On Tuesday night Boston Bikes (that’s the official city agency tasked with making Boston a bike-friendlier place) is hosting an open house on the Boston Bike Network Plan. The network plan, in brief, will extend bike lanes where they currently exist and connect them to regional bike paths. If you want to find out where Charlestown fits in the mix? The meeting runs from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Madison Park High School. If you can’t make it, there’s a local meeting of Charlestown residents working on the neighborhood-specific plan. That’s set for April 7 at 8 p.m. at Chow Thai Café.
4. The second installment of a continues tonight at the library. The event is free and runs from 7 to 8:30 p.m., sponsored by the Artists’ Group of Charlestown. More details? .

5. Cue the April showers. Rain today, but the temps will remain spring-like: high around 47. Rain tonight, too, with a chance of thunderstorms after 9 p.m.
