Chelmsford 2020 Election, Town Meeting Calendar Set

If you're interested in running for office this may be your chance: so far no seats appear to be contested.

CHELMSFORD, MA —The town has announced the 2020 election season’s information and deadlines. The annual townwide election, including a seat on the selectmen and two school committee member seats are up for grabs will be in April.

If you're interested in running for office this may be your chance: so far no seats appear to be contested. You have until February 18 return nomination, including signatures from 50 people papers with the office of the town clerk.

Townwide office candidates must obtain at least 50 signatures from Chelmsford registered voters. Town Meeting representative candidates must obtain at least 25 signatures from registered voters from the precinct they wish to represent. The town clerk recommends obtaining additional signatures for both townwide and Town Meeting offices.

Important dates
  • Feb. 18: Last day to file nomination papers.
  • March 2: Last day to apply for an absentee ballot to vote in the Presidential primary.
  • March 3: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Presidential Primary.
  • March 5: Last day for candidates to withdraw their papers for election.
  • March 18: Last day to register to vote in the annual town election.
  • April 6: Last day to apply for absentee ballot to vote in the town election.
  • April 7: Annual Town Election - Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
  • April 27: Spring Annual Town Meeting Begins.
