Nashua Man Held on $2,000 Bail After Turnpike Road Chase

The Lowell Sun reports the man, James Sawyer of Nashua, had three prior drunk-driving convictions.

 

The Lowell Sun reports that James Sawyer, 50, of Nashua, NH, was ordered held on $2,000 cash bail after pleading guilty to reckless operation of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, failing to stop for police, marked lane violations, and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

Sawyer has been previously convicted for three other drunk-driving related incidents.

Prosecutor Rachel Perlman said that Sawyer assumed a "Sumo wrestling position" after being booked a the Chelmsford police station, which was preceeded by a chase down the Turnpike Road area where he blew through a traffic signal and forced other cars off the road while swerving side to side.

Defense attorney Jeanne Earley explained to the court that Sawyer had recently had a pacemaker installed and disputed his three prior drunk-driving convictions.
