What Is The Actual Speed Limit on Old Westford Road?

Recently a reader came to us with a conundrum....

He was driving on Old Westford Road past the McCarthy School and he sees a pair of speed limit signs: 25 mph and 30 mph (pictured).

So, he asked us: is the speed limit at the intersection of Old Westford and Davis 25 or 30?

The difference is in the color of the signs, with yellow being "cautionary". The actual speed limit is 30, but the "suggested" speed limit is 25, and only at the intersection.

This is because of dangerous conditions from motorists coming the other way who don't see the intersection due to the curve in the road heading toward Drum Hill, as well as the downward slope that sends motorists heading that way going faster than they realize.

Old Westford and Davis isn't the only intersection in town with the pair of speed limits, with the corner of Acton and Maple roads near Agway being another example.
