Monday Essentials: Learning to Fly, Keeping a River Clean and 'American Bones'

Here's a quick look at what you need to know for the week ahead in Concord.

1. Walkalong Glider WorkshopPhil Rossoni, author of the book Build and Pilot Your Own Walkalong Gliders, will give a talk and workshop at the Fowler Library, at 7 p.m. this evening. This program, planned for kids ages 8-years and older, is about creating a modified paper airplane that is kept in the air by holding a large sheet of paper under it. 

2. Removing Water Chestnut from Local RiversFrom 5 to 8 p.m. this Tuesday, July 30, you can join OARS in using canoes to pull water chestnuts out of the water by hand and then dispose of them at a designated shore site. If you need a boat, there's a limited number available on a first come, first served basis. To register, email office@oars3rivers.org or call 978-369-3956. More info, head over here.

3. Do Some DecoupageFrom 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. this Wednesday, July 31, there's a workshop for making decoupage wooden bangle bracelets at Dabblers. 

4. Artist's Reception for "American Bones:" Featuring paintings and photography by Zannah Noe, "American Bones" comes to the artist's hometown of Concord this weekend. The artists reception, from 6 to 8 p.m. this Thursday, Aug. 1, at the Albright Art Gallery, precedes a weekend-long show of paintings and photographs by San Francisco artist, Zannah Noe. From the description: "The work removes the exhausted patriotism of Americana and seeks to celebrate the working and creative classes, reveal the irony in our nostalgia and depict regional architecture and landscapes." 

5. Tax Bills Due ThursdayFirst Quarter fiscal 2014 real estate and personal property tax bills are due this Thursday, Aug. 1. Tax bills can be paid online from the town’s website.
