Reunion Update, DiaPaolo and Bavaro, and Onion Fields

The latest on the reunion plans and updates from "You Know You Grew Up in Danvers When..."

In case you missed it last week, the Danvers Town-Wide Reunion plans are gaining momentum. The Canteen Dance is scheduled for June 30, 2012 and will be held at the Vittori Rocci post in nearby Beverly.

The Reunion Committee would like to get an idea about how many people plan to attend that event. The best ways to let them know are to leave a comment here on Danvers Patch, which we will forward, or join the Facebook group “Danvers Town Reunion."

Once you have joined, you may leave your comments and indicate your plans to attend the dance. In our last update, an incorrect link was provided due to a reporting and formatting error. We apologize for any inconvenience.

This week there were some interesting discussions about Endicott Street. The area where stands now, as well as Endicott Street were all onion fields. Local kids would be paid a penny a piece to pick onions! Endicott Street was a dirt road long before it was paved, and kids could play right on the road without any danger of speeding cars. They would walk to Mscisz Dairy Bar for ice cream too. What nice memories of an easier, slower paced era.

The picture of the week is from Joe Maria. He posted the photo we are sharing of Nick DiaPaolo and Mark Bavaro in 1979. DiaPaolo has achieved fame as a stand-up comic, writer, actor, and radio host. Bavaro’s illustrious career as a tight end includes two Super Bowl rings from his stint with the New York Giants.
