Danvers Marine Charged with Assault Fails to Drop Charges

A Salem District Court judge was not convinced to drop the most serious charges against a Danvers marine arrested last year.

The attorney for a Danvers Marine attempted to convince a Salem District Court judge to drop the most serious of the charges against his client, who was arrested last year for allegedly assaulting his father at his home, according to a recent report by the Salem News.

U.S. Marine Sgt. Matthew Fairbanks, 23, was arrested last year and charged with hitting his father in the head with a toilet.

Despite an affidavit from his father saying that the marine did not physically or verbally abuse him, a judge decided not to drop the most serious of charges against Fairbanks.
