Driver Flees After Crashing Into Gas Pump In Danvers

The crash started a fire that damaged the Gulf station on Route 1 in Danvers.

DANVERS, MA — Police are looking for the driver of a car that crashed into a gas pump at a Gulf station on Route 1 at around 1:18 a.m. Friday morning. The crash started a fire that destroyed one gas pump and left others covered with soot and ash. Investigators were called to the scene just after midnight and worked throughout the night, closing a portion of Route 1 for a short period.

In a statement, Danvers police said the fire was quickly extinguished by the station's fire suppression system. Topsfield police found the 2017 white Chevrolet Silverado with out of state plates that crashed into the gas pump on Friday morning. But police are still trying to locate the driver.

"Unfortunately, due to the active investigation, no further details can be released at this time," Slavin said.

Danvers police were assisted by Topsfield police and the Massachusetts State Police, as well as the Danvers Fire Department. Police are asking anyone with information to call the Danvers police at (978) 774- 1213.
