Essex Tech Scores 14 Medals at SkillsUSA District Competition
11 Essex Tech students qualified to compete at the state leadership and skills conference on April 28.

DANVERS, MA – Essex Technical High School earned 14 medals at the Massachusetts SkillsUSA District competition at Greater Lowell Technical High School in Tyngsboro with 11 students earning the right to compete against the best at the State Leadership and Skills Conference on April 28, in Marlborough.
"Congratulations to all the competitors," said Essex Tech SkillsUSA Advisor and Information Technology Services Instructor Elaine Batzer, who noted that 94 students from fourteen Career and Technical areas competed in Districts. "Medals were awarded to the top three finishers in each category, and fourteen Essex Tech students showed that they are among the best in the district. Not only were they recognized by the more than a thousand students in attendance at districts, but the gold and silver medal winners advance to the state competition with the gold medal winners there earning a right to compete at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference held in Louisville, Kentucky in June."
Earning gold medals were: Daniel Sherburne of Beverly (Auto Service Technology), Shalyn Peterbark of Danvers (Commercial Baking), Carly D'Orlando of Middleton (Cosmetology - over 500 hours) and Tylor Hughes of Salem (Internetworking).

Silver medals went to: Joseph Petrosino of Beverly (CNC Milling Specialist), Rory Veguilla of Middleton (CNC Turning Specialist), Robert Barbaro Jr. of Swampscott (Internetworking) and the Automated Manufacturing team of Satya Hoff from Salem, Faissal Ferouni of Danvers and Keegan Dooley of Topsfield.
Taking home bronze medals were: Shane Joubert of Gloucester (Auto Refinishing Technology), Kaleigh Duval of Boxford (Cosmetology - under 500 hours), Benjamin Adams of Rockport (Information Technology Services) and Laura Pham of Lynnfield (Medical Math).

In addition to the medals, Essex Tech’s Mathew Cunha (incumbent) of Peabody and Megan Perry of Danvers, both enrolled in the Information Support Services & Networking program, qualified to run as state officer candidates. If elected, Cunha and Perry would serve for the 2017-18 school year.
