Obituary: Michael A. Cassese, WWII Vet, Worked on Bomber Planes
Michael A. Cassese, 93, of Danvers, died Aug. 24. Worked for over 30 years at HP Hood and Sons

Michael “Mike” Anthony Cassese, 93, of Danvers, died peacefully at the Kaplan House in Danvers on August 24, 2014. He had shared a wonderful 60 years of marriage with his late wife, Rose (Swiderski) Cassese and was also predeceased by his beloved son, Michael Cassese Jr.
Mike was the son of the late Paul and Lucy (Caporale) Cassese and was known affectionately as “Moose” both for his large birth size (over 12 lbs.) and his athletic prowess in both baseball and football. Born in Danvers on August 30, 1920, he was a resident there for his whole life.
Mike worked for HP Hood and Sons for over 30 years and was a WWII veteran. He proudly served his country in the US Army Corps and was stationed in southern Italy where he was a mechanic on the B24 bomber planes.

Mike enjoyed traveling with his wife and family and was thrilled when he had a grandson at age 70. Dancing was one of his favorite things as well as a good cup of coffe eat his favorite place, Dunkin Donuts. He was an all around honorable “good guy” with a heart of gold.
He was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Annunciation Church and a longstanding member of the Danvers VFW as well as the Polish Club.

Mike was also predeceased by his sisters, Frances Atkinson,Grace Barbuzzi, Margaret Santisi and his brothers, Anthony, Nicholas and Angelo Cassese.
He is survived by his daughter, Paula McKinnon, his grandson, Michael McKinnon, and his son in law, Robert McKinnon. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Saunders of Beverly and many nieces and nephews. Special mention to his niece, Susan Barbuzzi,for always keeping an eye out for him.
There were many special family members, neighbors and friends who came to the family’s aid in the past three years. The family is extremely grateful for all the kindness and help that those angels gave to Mike.
A special thanks to Patty Lara, who was his main care taker for the past years as well as Lucy. Luz and Kris as well as the caring staff from Care Dimensions,. Also gratitude to the Spectrum Center in Beverly,where Mike enjoyed many a day listening to music, dancing and conversing with others.
