Dedham police are reminding residents that fireworks are illegal in Massachusetts.
DEDHAM, MA — Dedham police said they've seen an increase in fireworks usage in town and in neighboring communities. Chief Michael D’Entremont and the Dedham Police Departmentissued a statement on Wednesday reminding residents that the use of fireworks is illegal in Massachusetts.
It is illegal to use, possess or sell fireworks of any kind in Massachusetts, including Class C fireworks, which are sometimes falsely called “safe and sane fireworks.” Class C fireworks include sparklers, party poppers, snappers, firecrackers, spinners, cherry bombs and more. Additionally, residents are prohibited from purchasing fireworks elsewhere and transporting them into the state.
Anyone caught with fireworks could face a court hearing and may have to give up all fireworks they have.

The Dedham Police Department recommends that residents only attend displays put on by a licensed professional to ensure safety.
“With social distancing still in place, we too, are disappointed with the cancellation of many professional fireworks celebrations this year,” said Chief D’Entremont. “Despite the circumstances, fireworks are always dangerous and illegal, and the personal use of fireworks should not be substituted for the lack of professional displays.”
