Dedham Police Conduct Crosswalk Operations

The officers went "undercover" to see whether drivers abided by traffic rules fore pedestrians.

DEDHAM, MA — Dedham police hit the streets in plain clothes on Wednesday to see how safe Dedham roads are for pedestrians.

Officers conducted a "crosswalk decoy" operation on several streets in town. The operation involves an officer in plain clothes trying to use a crosswalk while cars pass. The point of the operation is to find drivers who violate traffic rules and don't yield to the pedestrian.

The operation was funded by a pedestrian safety grant from the Executive Office of Public Safety.
