Dedham Police Investigate Spray-Painted Swastikas

Five swastikas were drawn and other comments were written in neighborhoods around Dedham, police said Wednesday.

The Dedham Police Department is investigating six overnight instances of derogatory graffiti tagging, according to Chief Michael d’Entremont.

Police learned Wednesday morning that two fences, two roads, one driveway and a bulkhead at a new construction site were defaced.

Five swastikas were drawn and other comments were written in neighborhoods around town, including two in Endicott, two in Riverdale, one in Oakdale and one in Greenlodge, police said.

“While we do not believe that any specific person or family was targeted, ignorance is no defense. Swastikas represent hate and bigotry, and we are aggressively pursuing those responsible,” Chief d’Entremont said. “We will not tolerate this in our community.”

Police have not identified a suspect responsible for the crime. Police are asking anyone who lives in or was passing through the affected areas to please call them with any information on who may be responsible.
