Giving to Grieve: How One Widow Volunteers to Honor Her Husband

lost her husband, Jeffrey Coombs, 11 years ago during the Sept. 11 attacks.  But today she is mourning her loss by giving her time to others.

a Dedham native, he had three children with his wife. But on he was on American Airlines, Flight 11, when it was hijacked by terrorists, and became the first of four attacks on the day.

For Christie Coombs, it's hard not to think about it.

“This is when it hits home for us,” she told the Boston Herald. “It’s there every day, but today it’s going to be all over the news. This month is harder than the rest of the year, because it’s in your face.”

According to the Boston Herald, Coombs said to that she will start today with a blood drive, and then watch Mayor  lay a memorial wreath in the Public Garden.

She said she will then walk to the steps of the State House for a reading of the names of 9/11 victims, hosted by Gov. .

Coombs’ will then go to the Rose Kennedy Greenway, where she will help prepare 1,000 care packages for troops.
